Job Description

A. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Students’ Achievements and Wellbeing

  • Individual Academic Support Plan

- Determine students that require academic support and design individual academic support plan (Tier 1,2,3) based on their performance.

  • Planning and teaching

- Tier 1: Provide in class support to enable students to access the curriculum;

- Tier 1: Provide withdrawal support on an individual or small group basis;

- Tier 2: Provide tutorials when students need extra help;

- Tier 3: Suggest moving students to a more suitable class;

- Plan and teach well-structured and engaging lessons;

- Teach according to the needs of the students, differentiating for varying abilities;

- Work cooperatively with other teachers to ensure that the academic support takes into account student’s needs and the demands of the curriculum;

- Ensure the homework delivery of appropriate consistency, relevance, marking and feedback to the children;

- Cover lessons for absent teachers when needed.

  • Curriculum

- Contribute to the differentiation in lesson objectives, contents, and assessment of the school curriculum;

- Assist in the development and revision of the school’s syllabi and materials if needed.

  • Assessment

- Provide students with high quality and timely feedback that enables them to know where they are and what they need to do to improve;

- Design a wide range of formative and summative assessment tools to evaluate student learning growth;

- Support the composition of differentiated assessment;

- Conduct placement test for prospective students.

  • Reporting

- Provide assessment and achievement information/data as required for tracking and reporting purposes;

- Submit timely reports on students’ performance, including, but not limited to, term comments and grades.

  • Parent Engagement

- Work closely with parents, including follow up on reports, parents’ meetings etc., ensuring the successful progress of the students;

- Initiate campaigns/workshops to support parents helping their children at home.

  • Student Wellbeing

- Maintain a purposeful and safe learning environment for all students;

- Promote the general progress and wellbeing of individual students and of UTS community;

- Alert appropriate staff to problems experienced by students and make recommendations as to how these may be resolved and contribute to the preparation of action plans and other support mechanisms.

2. Extracurricular activities, events, and campaigns

  • Offer exciting extracurricular activities and clubs that support the holistic development of students;
  • Be involved in the organization and delivery of events, festivals, assemblies, etc;
  • Contribute to UTS’s, IP’s, and Academic Support Department’s annual Action Plan.

3. Professional Development

  • Embrace all opportunities to develop knowledge and understanding through internal and external PD or sharing workshops/events/campaigns;
  • Comply and contribute to the UTS quality improvement plan: mentor observation, peer observation, self-reflection, etc.;
  • Proactively participate in sharing sessions/workshops to contribute to the progress of the whole IP team.

4. Administration and School Policy

  • Attend team/department/school meetings to get updates on codes, regulations, and policy;
  • Complete all paperwork required for leave requests, work permits, disciplinary measures, etc. according to timelines laid out by school policy;
  • Understand and comply staff and department handbooks as well as policy and guidance documents.

5. Any other reasonable task assigned by the Principal/Manager/Academic Support Department Head.

B. JOB REQUIREMENT

1. Education/Qualifications

- Bachelor degree in the target subject (English, Science, Math) with teaching qualification (TEFL/TESOL/CELTA, etc.);

2. Experience/Knowledge

- A minimum of 1-year experience assisting or teaching in a school or language center;

- Understanding of effective teaching and learning theory and practice of fulfilling the individual needs of all students through differentiation and learning strategies;
